The first and only unabridged Frisian audio recording of Tolkien. Anne Tjerk Popkema (born 1975) is a Frisian linguist, translator, and researcher. As a scholar of Old Frisian and Middle Low German, Popkema ensured that the Frisian names and poems maintained the Germanic roots that Tolkien himself loved. Narrated by the translator himself, ensuring the linguistic nuances are preserved.

This was released in 2009 as a 7-CD box set in conjunction with the paper release. The digital version was made available on 2011.05.03. Popkema’s voice is the primary vehicle for Tolkien in Friesland. Beyond The Hobbit, he has also been involved in the translation of other Tolkien-related academic works.

Special thanks to Harrison Tu for drawing attention to this recording.
