The Hobbit in the 2000s

During the 2000s, the English speaking world had the Rob Inglis reading to content itself with and so the proliferation of international readings grows a-pace, particularly with the arrival of the Peter Jackson films in 2001.

2000s Recordings

• 2000  USA Library of Congress Recording (APH) The American Printing House for the Blind produced their third reading for the Library of Congress by Carol Stewart.
• 2001  Bilbo (Pan Audiobooks) Tomas Norström gives the first of two Swedish readings within 7 years.
• 2003  Hobit (Supraphon a.s.) Jan Vondráček gives a highly abridged reading which serves as a stepping stone between the 1996 Czech radio series and the 2013 unabridged reading.
• 2004 De Hobbit (Boekerij) Jan Meng reads a major modernization and revision of the Dutch translation.
• 2006 A Hobbit (Kossuth Kiadó & Mojzer Kiadó) Attila Kaszás provides the first Hungarian reading.
• 2008  Hobbiten (Norstedts) Jan Waldekranz focused on the linguistic precision of the new Swedish translation.
• 2008 Der Hobbit (Der Hörverlag) Gert Heidenreich reads the new Krege translation for German listeners.
• 2009 Hobbiten (Tiden) Eilev Myhren reads his own translation into Nynorsk, the High Norwegian dialect.
