The Hobbit in the 1980s

After a large number of productions in 1960s and 1970s there was a distinct drop off in the more austere, global recession years of the 1980s.

1980s Recordings

• 1980 Der Hobbit (Westdeutscher Rundfunk) The first German production of one of Tolkien’s works. Awarded the Audience Prize at the “Radio Drama Cinema Under the Stars” festival in Berlin.
• 1989 Hobit (Československý rozhlas) Czechoslovakia’s public radio broadcaster, Československý rozhlas’ eccentric two-part radio adaptation.
