The Soundbook is a boxed set which combined the previous four Caedmon Tolkien releases – Malvern recordings of the professor and the new studio recording of Christopher.

There were two cassette releases; SBC 101 matched the vinyl box set and had the same title, the other combined the matching four Roger Garland cover cassettes, this was entitled the JRR Tolkien Collection.

The exact release date of this is unknown but it was timed to coincide with the release of The Silmarillion on September 15th, so it would have been either the same day or shortly after this date.
