Oğuz Yanık is a prominent Turkish voice actor and narrator, well-known for his “storyteller” voice that balances gravitas with accessibility. He has so far narrated the Turkish versions of Hobbit, Hurin’in Çocukları (The Children of Húrin) and also Silmarillion.
This recording began as a community-driven project on his YouTube channel, Tek Hece. It was released serially, chapter by chapter, starting as early as 2022 and continuing through 2024. Yanık did not just read the text; he produced it with atmospheric music (often using themes from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack) and ambient sound effects to help listeners navigate the dense, biblical tone of the First Age. Because the Silmarillion is more of a chronicle than a novel, Yanık adopted a “Legendarium Guide” persona. His reading is slower, more deliberate, and focuses heavily on the correct pronunciation of Elvish names, which has made his version a “study guide” for Turkish fans. Tek Hece also has significant portions of the Lord of the Rings lore and summaries, tho the official Turkish reading is by Murat Eken.
The recording uses the standard Turkish translation by Berna Akkıyal. Following the massive success of his official Hobbit (2025) and LOTR (2023/24) recordings, the publisher İthaki Yayınları and Storytel Turkey moved to bring his Silmarillion work into their professional catalog. The 2025 version removed the copyrighted movie music used in his early YouTube drafts, replacing it with original, subtle ambient soundscapes that meet professional distribution standards.
