Taru Sormusten Herrasta was recorded 1991-1992 and published in 1992–1993 by WSOY as a six-volume audiobook (C-cassettes), each volume containing 12 cassettes and in 2002–2003 as a three-volume CD version, each volume containing 20 CDs in two cases. It was read by actor Heikki Määttänen who had a long career in radio, film and television.

The illustrated edition, which was published in September 2023, also includes a revised translation by Kersti Juva, was published in December 2023 as a new audio book, read by Toni Kamula.
