In 1989, Czechoslovakia’s then public radio broadcaster, Československý rozhlas, produced a two-part radio adaptation of The Hobbit. It was directed by Táňa Tadlánková with incidental music composed by Jozef Malovec.

A fairly basic production, with a relatively small cast, and various accompanying incidental music and sound effects. Each of the two episodes had a runtime of about 40 minutes. Necessarily, very large amounts of the story had to be omitted. This is particularly noticeable in the second episode. Gandalf also acts as the narrator.
