The work was first translated into Finnish in 1973. Risto Pitkänen’s translation was titled Lohikäärmevuori . However, Tolkien’s other works were translated by different Finnish translators and published by different publishing houses. Because the names of people and places were given different Finnish equivalents, Lohikäärmevuori no longer fit into the same canon. The situation was “corrected” in 1985, when WSOY published Kersti Juva’s translation.

Five years later, the first audio version by Lauri Komulainen was recorded and released onto 12 audio cassettes.
